Training

A group of snake handling trainees gather around for a group photo with an Anchieta's dwarf python after completing the course.

We offer Corporate Snake Awareness and Handling Courses:

Operating a mine, lodge or factory in Namibia means that snake encounters are inevitable We provide specialized, comprehensive corporate courses designed specifically for Mining Operations and Interested Public & Private Groups. Keep your on-site workforce safe and protect the environment. Also perfect for tour guides, agricultural workers, lodge staff or desert adventurers. Available for groups of six or more participants. What you will learn: Venomous snake identification, behavioural awareness, safe capture/handling techniques and critical snakebite first aid.

We have trained over 2000 people throughout Namibia. We have trained at most mines including multiple times at Rossing Uranium, Husab Mine and Langer Heinrich as well as further afield. We have also trained multiple staff members for the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism and multiple lodges throughout Namibia.

Course content

Courses start with a theoretical component in which participants learn about snake biology and behaviour, different families of snakes and how to identify them and determine whether a snake is dangerous or harmless. Also covered are different types of venom and symptoms as well as basic first aid for snake bites.

The theoretical component is followed by a practical component in which participants are introduced to snake capture equipment and taught how to use it. Participants then learn how to safely catch and release snakes and have the opportunity to practice their skills using live snakes from the snake park.

New Developments

We are currently finalizing two exciting new courses:

an advanced course for those who have completed the basic course and would like to extend their skills and

and introductory course on reptiles for interested children

Details will appear here as soon as it is launched.
